Yeovil biomass company meets low carbon sector

Posted: 18/5/11

A Somerset biomass company, expanding rapidly all over the world, is exhibiting at the Somerset in Business Conference next week.

Last month, we reported on how Woodpecker Energy UK has been working at the Osprey Quay Olympic Sailing Village in Portland, where the company has installed three large-scale Thermon biomass boilers - two with an output of 150kW each, and another with an output of 200kW. The boilers will power a district heating system for the accommodation block, which will host up to 400 international athletes, sailors, coaches and officials.

Next week the company will be exhibiting at the 2011 Somerset in Business Conference in Taunton. Woodpecker will be speaking with businesses, farmers and the public sector about the incentives provided by the £860m Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI). Under the RHI, commercial end users will see real financial benefits, particularly in off-grid locations, with payments being made for each kWh of renewable heat produced.

Woodpecker is a full-service provider of domestic and commercial biomass boilers, sized between 25kW and 300kW, all of which are manufactured in the UK. Biomass heating systems can help house builders and developers meet code 4 and above compliance, and can enable local councils and architects to reduce carbon footprints and meet renewable energy targets.

Woodpecker also sponsors Mary Rook, a Yeovil-based contender for a place in the new Womens' Match Racing discipline, the Olympic class that is replacing the Yngling.
