Budding entrepreneurs in Somerset looking to set up a business or who have been trading for less than a year are being asked to step up to the microphone to give their business a boost.
Somerset SOUP is a great opportunity for all start ups to pitch their ideas to a business audience, gain valuable feedback and win £1000 in memberships and business support.
As a pitcher you will compete against others whilst gaining essential business insight, investment and brand awareness for your company.
SOUP is an international crowd funding phenomenon that brings communities together to raise small-scale investment to kick-start new businesses or ideas. The concept is simple – come along, pay for a bowl of soup, and listen to four investment-hungry businesses pitch their idea.
Attendees then have their say by voting with their spoons for the idea which is most deserving of investment. The business with the most votes gets the takings from the event plus a package of support.
As well as a cash injection, the winning business will receive a package of business support and advice, provided through one to one business support and mentoring, and access to a range of workshops and events. The winner will be able to access incubation space in any of the Somerset Enterprise Centres (where available), free of charge for 12 months and a year’s free membership of the Somerset Chamber of Commerce, to help them develop their business and raise their profile. In addition to this, Albert Goodman will provide free subscription to a cloud accounting package for one year.
Gavin Eddy, a successful entrepreneur himself will compere the SOUP event. Gavin is the Founder and CEO of two successful companies: Forward Space (forwardspace.co.uk) a managed workspace company providing shared workspace to start-up and emerging businesses and Coherent (coherent.work) a tech business which has developed a SAAS (Software as a Service) platform for managing workspace and connecting co-workers.
The event takes place at the Creative Innovation Centre CIC, Taunton on Wednesday 20th September, with networking starting at 12 noon.
