Huntspill, Somerset - 250 acre Energy Park gets ready
Working in conjunction with Sedgemoor District Council, BAE Systems and their consultant team are continuing to advance proposals to develop the former Royal Ordnance Factory situated at Puriton, North East of Bridgwater Town Centre.
Following allocation as a strategic employment site within the newly adopted Sedgemoor Core Strategy, further planning policy support in the form of a Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) is anticipated to be formally provided by Sedgemoor District Council when the SPD document is adopted in January 2012. This document will provide a framework for development of the site for a range of energy generation and related manufacturing and distribution uses over a developed site area of c. 250 acres.
Against a background of policy support for redevelopment of this significant brownfield site BAE Systems have recently reconfirmed their commitment to delivering a new access road to the site in the preliminary stages of development. The new road will serve to remove through traffic from Puriton Town centre, whilst providing a safe access for residents and users of the Energy Park to the A39 and in turn J23 of the M5 Motorway. In addition, BAE Systems are also developing proposals to reinstate rail link creating a rail access from the site to the main South West line.
Rick Boucher, Property Manager at BAE Systems commented “We are delighted by the weight of policy support for the development of this brownfield site being demonstrated by Sedgemoor District Council. The site has many unique qualities, not least its ability to accommodate large site requirements which we look forward to working further with Sedgemoor District Council to accommodate within the district”.
