Expansion of Steel Stockyard in Henstridge

HENSTRIDGE and the surrounding areas are to enjoy a boost in jobs and investment after new steel stockyard owners AJN Steelstock announced new contracts in the region worth £750,000.

The company, which recently acquired the 17 acre former Newton Steel stockyard in Henstridge, has already created 100 new jobs in the area and pledged 50 more after the centre opens in October.

Forty-three of these were hired from those attending a recent recruitment open day in a variety of roles including drivers, machinery operators, sales, office staff and HGV drivers.

Alongside its recruitment drive, the Suffolk-based company has also announced a variety of contracts to local businesses worth £750,000

During the last financial year, AJN Steelstock increased its sales by 21,512 tons, an increase of almost twenty one per cent on the previous year, which led the company to a turnover of £50 million for the first time in its history.

The company acquired the Henstridge site during its search for a new site from which to expand its operations and replicate the success of its existing facility.

As a former steel stockyard in a strategically important location, and with much of the necessary infrastructure in place, the former Newton Steel site in Henstridge was seen as the perfect 'fit'.
