Hinkley Point Nuclear Development
Welcome to the Supply Chain Registration for Hinkley Point C
The Hinkley Supply Chain registration website is part of EDF Energy’s procurement strategy that both meets the needs of the Company for the reliable and efficient supply of high quality goods and services, and also enables local firms to be involved in the supply chain. The procurement strategy will cover the full range of goods and services to be supplied to the project, from providing foodstuffs for construction canteens, to the supply of construction materials, construction services and highly specialised goods and services for the nuclear industry. The potential of a project of this magnitude to contribute to the economic development of the region is recognised as very significant. It will be vital to the success of the project, as well as to the longterm economic enhancement of the area, that EDF Energy is able to make the most of the abilities and capability of the local areas around Hinkley Point taking account of competence, capacity and competitiveness.
The Opportunity
EDF Energy sees considerable advantages in being able to develop relationships with suppliers who will go on to play a part in supplying a number of its new build projects, including at Hinkley Point C. This means that for local suppliers who get involved in the Hinkley Point C project, there will be potential opportunities to leverage their involvement into other new build projects.
The Timetable
Construction of the nuclear power plant at Hinkley is still subject to planning permission but is due to begin later this year with some of the preliminary works. The first reactor is due to go live in 2017. 2010-2011 Preliminary Works 2011-2012 Associated Development Works 2011-2017 Hinkley C Power Unit 2012 -2018 Hinkley D Power Unit.
The Challenge
The accreditation and safety standards for work associated with a nuclear power plant are quite rightly exacting. Businesses will need to be accredited to the relevant standard to be invited to tender or to be part of consortia. For many of the upcoming work streams there is both time and the support necessary for businesses to develop and meet the required standards, but the process needs to start now with registration of interest.
