Abbey Manor is one of the leading private property companies in Southern England with a £200 million development pipeline stretching from Cornwall to Essex. The company has associated property investment, business centre & conferencing and waste management business interests.
The Abbey Manor history can be traced back to 1870 with the establishment of Somerset builder E.R. Bartlett. The company incorporated in 1913 and grew steadily as a regional building contractor for the next fifty years. In the 1960s, the company shifted its focus to property development. This has remained the core business activity to this day.
As property developers, not traders, Abbey Manor undertakes the full development process from blank sheet of paper to completed building with a team of project, development and construction managers. The company produces results by focusing development activities through effective project and financial management and building long-term relationships with our customers and partners.
To date, Abbey Manor has completed some 7 million sq.ft of commercial and residential development. A cornerstone of this activity has been an extensive portfolio of both bespoke design and build and speculative employment land use based development projects.

EDF Energy is one of the UK’s largest energy companies and the largest producer of low-carbon electricity, producing around one-sixth of the nation's electricity from its nuclear power stations, wind farms, coal and gas power stations and combined heat and power plants. The company supplies gas and electricity to more than 5.5 million business and residential customer accounts and is the biggest supplier of electricity by volume in Great Britain.
EDF Energy’s safe and secure operation of its eight existing nuclear power stations at sites across the country makes it the UK’s largest generator of low carbon electricity. EDF Energy is also leading the UK's nuclear renaissance and has published plans to build four new nuclear plants, subject to the right investment framework. These new plants could generate enough low carbon electricity for about 40% of Britain’s homes. They would make an important contribution to the UK’s future needs for clean, secure and affordable energy. The project is already creating business and job opportunities for British companies and workers.
Hinkley Point C is expected to generate a 500 million pound-plus boost to the South West economy during the construction phase. EDF Energy has also committed to developing local skills and apprenticeships and it is anticipated that the station will create 900 permanent jobs during the 60-year operation of the plant and inject a further £40 million per year into the local economy.
Two new generating units at Hinkley Point C would be capable of supplying enough electricity for around five million homes and at the peak of construction provide around 5,600 jobs on-site and more in the supply chain.
In its nuclear activities EDF Energy has partnered with Centrica, which has a 20% stake in the company’s eight existing plants and in the project carrying out pre-development work for new build. Centrica also has the option to take up to 20% stakes in each of the four planned plants.
Through Our Sustainability Commitments, EDF Energy has launched one of the biggest environmental and social programmes of any British energy company and the company has since been awarded the highest ranking of Platinum Plus in Business in the Community’s 2011 Corporate Responsibility Index, the UK’s leading voluntary benchmark of corporate responsibility.
EDF is the official energy utilities partner and sustainability partner of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The company is also helping its customers and others use energy more sustainably through products and initiatives such as Team Green Britain, smart meters and electric vehicle research.
EDF Energy is part of EDF Group, one of Europe’s largest power companies. The company employs around 15,000 people at locations across the UK.

Established some 30 years ago, Mead Realisations Ltd is a land development and property-enabling company, which buys ‘problem’ land, ie land that does not have planning permission, has access problems and possibly contaminated soil. The company then uses the services of specialist consultants to work through the problems before it either develops the land through consortium groups involving other major developers, or develops the land through its own subsidiary company, Meadow Mead Homes Limited.
Alternatively, the ‘clean’ land is sold directly onto major developers.
During the history of the company, the Chairman Mr Derek Mead has worked closely with major developers, local authorities, housing associations and other public bodies and has invested a considerable amount into providing community facilities, including roads, churches, flood prevention schemes and public open spaces. As a local businessman, he believes strongly in investing back into the local area.
Mead Realisations Ltd is part of the Mead Group. The group initially started as a family farm business, but over the years, this company has diversified into business properties and now has an extensive portfolio of retail shops, holiday cottages, offices and industrial units. The Group’s businesses include: D & P Mead & Co, Meadow Mead Homes Limited, Puxton Park Limited and J24 Ltd
