Serving the city of Wells and the towns of Frome, Glastonbury, Shepton Mallet and Street, the Mendip area lies just to the south west of the larger Cities of Bath and Bristol. The District has some strong sectors including the Creative Industries and Food & Drink.
Mendip is home to the World-famous annual Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts; but also has a range of artisans and creative businesses with several fashion and design HQs, including Clarks Shoes, Mulberry , Duo and Clarks Village. Amongst the many food and drink producers are award-winning cider producers including Brothers Drinks and Orchard Pig; and various craft producers such as Filberts Fine Foods along with various leading volume and artisan cheddar cheese makers.
There are a range of business parks available, and a number of other developing key sites within the District. One of these is the potential that will be offered by the designation of the Bath and West Showground near Shepton Mallet as an Enterprise Area. This Enterprise Area aims to attract new business investment and growth into Mendip.
There is a proposed Bath & West Local Development Order (LDO) in the pipeline which will cover an 8.2 hectare part of the Enterprise Area. The LDO is intended to provide certainty to potential investors and encourage new development; with occupiers benefiting from reduced costs and speedy delivery. The LDO is due to be confirmed in Autumn 2015
